New Alaafin of Oyo, who becomes the next king in Oyo

Ever since the death of Oba Lamidi Adeyemi people have been asking who is the new Alaafin of Oyo or who is going to be the next Aláàfin.

The new Alaafin of Oyo has not been declared yet. However, Basorun of Oyo, who is the head of Oyemesi, by the name High Chief Yusuf Akinade Ayoola, has taken over the affairs of the palace of Alaafin of Oyo, pending the appointment of a new Alaafin.

Historically, Basorun in the alaafin of oyo is the head of all the chiefs and has the final say on who is going to the next Alaafin of Oyo.

Members of Oyomesi were headed by prime minister called Basorun who can demand the king’s suicide by sending him a calabash of parrot’s eggs.

Basorun has the power to organise religious festivals in addition to becoming the commander-in-chief of the Oyo Army.
